I spent 1 1/2 today playing with the controls on the Sony HX-300 Canon SX510 HS Nikon P520 at my local store. I like the feel of the Sony HX-300 the best due to the rubber grip, the zoom/focus ring, the size of the camera, and the external controls. I have not tried the Lumix DMX TZ70 yet. It does not seem that anyone other than Sony has a zoom/focus ring.
For my use, the difference between 42 to 50 or 60 optical zoom I don't believe will make a significant difference. I am more concerned about having the range from close up to telephoto, the ability to focus quickly, ease of the menu system, and I also want a camera that has wifi connectivity. I am therefore considering putting an eyeFi card into the Sony HX-300 if I get it. RAW would be nice, which is Sony does not have, but it is not a deal breaker for me. I want a versatile camera that is a bridge camera that would allow me to shoot portraits, landscapes when traveling, fall foliage, sports, and closeup of flowers, animals, etc.
Are there any other cameras that I am missing looking at that would meet my needs. Any comments from any owners of the above cameras would be helpful also.
PS- I am also considering a compact camera like either the Leica C or the Sony DSC-RX 100 m2. I realize this would not be a substitute for the zoom bridge camera I am considering above.
