Mike, thank you for your service! :)

Your settings quite successfully made the best of a bad situation. :)

The soldier on your left may not be photogenic in then usual sense, but he does have a quite interesting face.

Celebrating a year with the D800. I have been cured of all camera lust...nearly. I wish I had a good cell phone/camera sometimes. The capabilities of this camera are substantial and, certainly exceed my routine requirements. My only lens is a 50MM 1.8 Nikon. It gets the job done for the most part. Some day though, I'll start saving for a good 24MM. My other passion - a jeep wangler - is a higher priority right now.

It is awfully quiet indeed. I think many people are spending so much time on social media website like Flickr, Facebook, and Google+ that they don't find the time (or have the need) to be active on a forum anymore.

it has been quiet. I have to admit I am guilty of not posting much. Been busy with new kitchen, wife`s 40th birthday and family. Got 6 week caravan holiday coming up soon, so will be posting plenty of landscape and wildlife shots. I just don`t tend to post family photos on the forum.

Have bought a 6D, 17-40 f4 L and 24-70 2.8 Tamron and have taken a lot of photos mainly family stuff, really enjoying the focus ability and pictures I am getting in low light. Did my 5 and 7 year old school concert recently. The 6D is just a confident, competent camera it just doesn`t miss. With the 7D you had to work at it, those skills are coming in handy with the 6D, it makes me look good.

I don`t do facebook, twitter or google plus, its all too much.

I have not posted much lately. With so little recent personal shooting, and no equipment acquisitions, and little urge to try anything new, it seems I have stagnated, with little to say/type/write. The stifling heat and humidity in this area have not helped, nor have the long, busy nights at work, causing chronic fatigue.

It is certainly not other forms of socal media, in my case, as I do not use them.

Other forums I visit have experienced lesser participation recently.

If I can find the energy, I may meet some local photographers at a restaurant in a nearby town next week, some of whom I used to see at a more-local place once a month, before the enthusiasm for that one died.

It's sad though, to see the forums have become quieter. Personally I do like them more than social media, I only use Twitter on my phone and it's when I'm out, as well as Flickr, though really the main point of it is so I can store my photos, make them more accessible and to get maybe more feedback. At home I usually spend time on forums and Reddit. I think forums are a more helpful and supporting communities, especially the Cameralabs forum! :)

Ok ok, I'm also guilty of not posting much here, but I always try to make time for it. Editing my photos is painstakingly slow on my computer, so that's also why I haven't posted much pictures as of lately.

I really do hope to see more posting, this is such a great forum.

Piero, I think you are one of our most active members at the moment, so you're not guilty of posting too little.
I agree that forums are better support communities than sites like Flickr. The forum is all about the community, whereas social sites like Flickr are much more individualistic, or at least they have a tendency toward being used individualistically by many participants. For example, despite our board being rather quiet, I have gotten more comments on my Paris pictures than I did on Google+ (which, admittedly, is also not the busiest site on the web). It's too easy there to just +1 an image and move on, without leaving a comment, let alone some proper feedback.

I feel exactly the same way. My wife is pregnant 8 months now and I will probably not get a lot more time in the near future. Working full time doesn't help either. Would love to do more with photography (would become a wildlife photographer in a flash if I was sure it would generate enough income) but that's just not a realistic view I'm afraid...

But I actually do visit this forum every day, looking for inspiration and to just read about photography related stuff posted by people that are just as crazy about photography as I am. Would be a shame if this forum came to an abrupt halt.

Hate to admit I've been quiet on multiple fronts this year. No significant camera acquisitions since I have pretty much everything I need anyway. Nothing new that says "must buy" yet, although I keep looking for something that is near-DSLR quality with ultrazoom in ultra-compact form factor. Not asking too much is it? :D (hint: make the Canon SX50 smaller and that'll do).

I've also not been out shooting much this year. Everything feels very "done". Need something new but out of ideas. Also got significantly more pets than last year which are taking a lot of time maintaining.
