I am not sure this yet the official announcement and specs release by Canon themselve will be for me the TRUE confirmation of what this camera really is, and i hope it is what the latest rumor says, except for the pic, the pic looks too much like an older Canon DSLR to be True, the new Canon DSLRs i have seen had compact and curved shapes which is better to hold than those square shapes they had in the past.

Again I hope for the specs list to be true, and i hope the 70D is small than the 7D yet still big enough to be an enthusiast DSLR!

The newest models were a 6D (aimed to be small), a 100D and a 700D. All camera's that are supposed to be small(er). I would hope for a slightly bigger and more robust camera with the 70D, though the 7D Mark II will probably be the bigger one. I always liked the feel of the XXD camera's. The 7D feels even better and that one is even bigger than my old 40D. Never going back to small again, unless I am physically forced to do so (like when I would not be able to hold a bigger cameras anymore). Next step: 1D Mark III or IV :).

Of course a rumour site posting is still just that, a rumour, and nothing official. However they're unlikely to give something their highest rating unless they're pretty sure by whatever undisclosed sources they may have. The claims of a launch next week, combined with the showing and later removal of the brochure, may or may not be significant contributors to that.

Size wise, I found the 50D, 7D, 5D mk 1 and mk2 to all be for practical purposes the same. The question remains what path the 70D body will take, if it will draw inspiration from some or all of the 60D, 7D, 6D, or go another new route.

Curious line appeared on CR: "Canon is not overly happy with us at the moment, especially one specific country (not France)." I haven't poked through their forums for any clues what that means, but I have to wonder if it's the 70D brochure leak related.

As for launch vs. announcement, well, let's see. There's often a bit of a delay between the first time a new product is mentioned, and the time you can actually find it in a shop. Maybe I misunderstood but the 70D's day has been rumoured to be next week. If Canon say anything at all, I would expect availability to be soon after. They wouldn't do a development announcement for a product at this low level.

That line on canon rumors puzzled me as well.

Personally, if it were not for sites like canonrumors.com, I probably wouldn't be nearly as interested in knowing what is next. I have more fun reading up on the speculation and theory-craft than what is actually announced half the time.

Interesting camera indeed. Sounds pretty good, fast, and with the touch screen and the noise performance, which is supposed to be better, it sounds pretty much linke the most interesting crop camera since some years ago. OK - the 650D was cool as well but the sensor was still the old one. If the sensor is really better this time, this could be my next crop camera; replacing my 500D.
Yes, I want something that dosn't loose so badly against my 5D3. It dosn't need to be as good but at least it should be a tad better than the 500D.

Hi everyone, we now have an official sticky thread for the EOS 70D, so could we continue the discussion over there? I'll now lock this thread.

Cheers!
