Well; I don't think they are going to replace the 5D3, yet. I guess it's going to be a pretty expensive camera as a replacement for the 1Ds series.

That was my prediction too; 50% larger than 18MP is 40MP. I think they'll need that to compete with the Nikon D800 36MP. However, I would like to see one camera with APS-C 40MP sensor and one with full-frame 120MP sensor.

Hey, a guy can dream.

50% larger than 18MP is 27MP!
It's maths not photography.

Actually you wouldn't get a 50% increase if you go up to 27MP. I'll try to give an example here. The numbers are not correct but are the easiest way for me to calculate it. Let's say we have an image that is 6000 by 3000 pixels

6000 x 3000 = 18MP

Now we increase both sides by 50% so our image is now 9000 by 4500 pixels.

9000 * 4500 = 40.5MP

Increasing the pixel density on both sides by 50% would give you a 40MP image instead of 18 MP.

27MP would give you 7500 by 3600. Not exactly the same size but I think it does illustrate the point.

I said, APS-C 40MP, not full-frame.

I am hoping the combination of specs of the new 70D is enough to entice me to buy that camera as a DSLR to last for around five years!

I hope the autofocus is better than the 700D.

http://www.canonrumors.com/2013/04/a-bi ... o-cr1-cr2/

based on the rumored specs of the Canon 70D I fear that the 70D will be to the 700D what the 60D is to the 650D and the 600D.

which to me will be disappointing and not worth the $1,200USD bodly only the 70d may cost.

In short the 70d will be the pro version of the 700d, same sensor same operating system same crop frame, only the 70d will have a weather sealed and tougher body, an lcd display on top, faster shutter speed and slighter more range in other software features!

I just look forward to next week tuesday 23rd april 2013, its about time the 70d is announced!

It is said canon has delayed the 70d because they are having "second thoughts" about using the 21mp or 24mp sensor in the canon 70d, the first camera you see mentioned in the above link is the 7d mark ii.

If the 70d has either the 21mp or 24mp sensor along with what they said it may have already it would be worth the $1,200USD it may cost.

Canon 70D specs released, looks like the actual Canon 70D brochure from Canon themselves!!

This is the camera i want, Gordon Lang has told me himself he will make a review and compare it to the Nikon D7100.

To me it appears this Camera will out perform in many ways or some the Nikon D7100.

Announcement of the 70D is said to be July 2nd which is Tuesday coming.

I wonder when will it be released?

Kinda in line with previous speculation as to what the 70D would be, sorta building on the 7D, which makes the 7D mk2 even more interesting!

its does make it interesting, maybe a crop sensor version of the 1D ?

but why would anyone buy a 70D if you can buy a 7D , which would arguably be cheaper and for many cases better?

it adds wifi, so chances are it will not be a tough as the 7D. ie less magnesium to allow wifi to work.
If it uses the 6D`s body or very similar but fitted with a crop sensor, weather sealing may not be as good as the 7D. It appears that the 6D isn`t as good as the 7D in that regard.

I know it wouldn't happen, but it would be cool if the 7D II was an APS-H since canon seems to have dropped that from the 1-series lineup, really make the 7D a transition from the 2-digit line-up to the full 35mm. But that would also piss a lot of people off who have APS-C lenses with the current 7D, so never mind.

Also, can't wait to see what this does to the 60D price

Interesting... if I'm not imagining things, the image of the 70D info has gone from CR, although copies can still be found on other sites. I wonder if they've had to remove it? I only went back for a look to see how the body shape compared to the 60D/7D but I was never good at camera spotting! Anyway, an old rumors was that the 60D would be treated as the black sheep of the series, with the 70D returning to the build of the 50D and previous. If so, that would keep it more in line with the 7D. Random thought: could they base it on the 6D body styling? That's relatively new and also has wifi too.

While it is not impossible, I find it hard to believe that any future 7D will change sensor size. If they did, I think that would effectively become a new camera series, and not be a 7D series any more. Assuming the 70D rumours are correct, then for a 7D mk2 to have a place, it would obviously need some significant upgrades. Perhaps 10fps+ and even more advanced AF system. At least in the AF side, Nikon has long been beating Canon on paper specs, so it has probably been enough years for Canon do follow in the not too distant future.

since the latest 1D X is now 18MP ff and 12fps , it does make sense to put the 7D II out there as a crop sensor version of the 1D.
So 18MP, 20.5MP or even 24MP crop sensor with focus on speed and better high iso would be a winner. That would keep the wildlife, bird, action photographers happy

Does it need a new name when MPixels change?

For me my 6D feels very much like a 60D, so maybe they will be using the same bodyshell and fitting a crop sensor in there, then add some functionality and call it the 70D.
The 6D is 20.5MP the announcement suggest the 70D is 20.5MP.

Looking at the pics of the 70D and my 6D, they look indectical, just slight difference with flip out screen and adding built in flash.

Thanks for pointing that out, I took another look and yes the image is gone, when i looked back in my mind of what the 70d looked like, it looks just like the edited images of the 70d i have seen in previous rumors, I didn't like that look anyway, it was too SQUARE, and sqaurish designs with by exp in any tech dont feel good in the hands.

The curve like designs of the modern DSLRs as I have felt in person of the rebel t3i and 7D feel good, for me there is hope that the 70D will have a curved modern design I will hopefully love or like enough.

However function is more important than looks, though shape of tech is also part of technology's function

CR have now put a rating of CR3 on the specs. On their rating scale, that means the info is as good as fact.
