Great review, guys! Really insightful.

Whilst it has some nice novel features (on a mirrorless camera), I still feel it was made because everybody else had a mirrorless solution.

I wonder if Canon already has the Mark II in the pipeline.

For completeness you should include a Panasonic (e.g. GF-??) and low end NEX as comparisons. The NEX cameras have the same ability to use Sony/Minolta SLR lenses as the Canon does its system lenses, and far more features (and better sensors). I imagine the EPL5 will have better IQ than any comparable Panasonic.

I held an EOS M yesterday, and liked the way it felt in the hand. It was not a demo, and therefore had no lens mounted, nor battery in it, but I found it likeable enough, and remain interested! :)

Researching and handling the Nikon Coolpix A has me taking a fresh look at the EOS M. In the M's favor, it is presently being sold at lower prices by several sellers, including Amazon.

One member of another forum has been posting some quite interesting images taken with the EOS M, using EF L lenses. He reports that AF speed is not all that slow, except for the 100mm L in low light. Of course, the 100mm L Macro tends to focus more slowly and deliberately, anyway, in low light, on a DSLR, compared to many other lenses.

Regarding the lack of a viewfinder, I am thinking a optical viewfinder inserted into the flash shoe might be workable. On the other hand, using the LCD to compose the image might not be such a bad thing, after all; perhaps I should just give it an extended try.

According to Canon Rumors, the EOS M is going to be getting a significant upgrade to the autofocus.

Having seen those videos, even the original wasn't as bad as I thought. It's comparable to a compact camera. Of course, Oly/Pana have really set a high bar for expectations so we know what can be done. We just need the other companies to get closer to it.

I kinda hope that, given time, metabones will release the speedbooster for the M. That may be more likely once the AF is faster and people will actually start buying it in greater numbers. Oh, more native bodies and lenses wouldn't go amiss either!

New firmware is now released. Anyone seeing an improvement in their camera?

Would this firmware warrant an updated mini-review as the following was listed as a major complaint?

"The slow AF even with native lenses..."
