The poles are to hang nets for drying. Salmon swim down the coast and traditionally fishermen would run out their nets to catch some of them in passing. The last of the old fishermen employing this method retired some years ago but the cottage (bothy) that they used remains as a little museum.

I was careful in the composition of this shot to include the poles, without them the photo would be lacking. Shot intially in colour, for some reason this works much better in b/w.

Hi Guys!

Here is my submission. This is the first time I am participating. Please excuse me if my submission is not up to the mark :) .

Image

This photo was taken on my trip to a tourist spot - Murwillumbah. I found this white cat staring at me as if it was asking me to take a photo. I quickly seized the opportunity.

Nikkor 50mm, f/2.8, 1/250sec, ISO200 using Nikon D5000

Shot in colour converted to BW in Lightroom adjusted contrast and exposure.

This is Brenda. Although not in first place, she was clearly giving it her all in this year's Manitoba Marathon. And no, it wasn't raining, that's sweat. In case you hadn't guessed, it was pretty hot that day.

So much black&white and my shot is the first analog one?

Image

I'm studying communication design and there we also do some camera stuff. This was my first black&white film I developed myself and that's probably the shot I like most. I'm pretty happy I can use all my lenses on my analog EOS ( https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/9 ... directlink ) - and now it just feels great to be able to develop that stuff myself. No, I don't smoke.

Ducks in shadow
Canon 5D Mk II
EF 100-400 At 400mm & F/7.1
ISO 200

Cropped, adjusted the contrast to bring out the background, converted to B&W

I like photographing wildlife and I was capturing this trio of ducks and they flew into the shadow of the mountain behind me, I liked how it turned out.

Some street art I found pretty interesting. Here you don't usually find things nearly as elaborate as this. I think it looks nicer in B&W than color, but that's just my opinion.

Camera Model: Canon EOS 600D
Lens and focal length: Canon EF-S 18-55mm @18mm

Post processing: Converting it to B&W (obviously), a bit of contrast boost.
