My photo got picked to be used as part of an article on Army.mil http://www.army.mil/article/104564/Chaplains_qualified_to_provide_more_than_spiritual_guidance/

I also got to take pictures of Coach Lou Holtz, Steve Kaplan, and Chefs Charles Carroll and Robert Irvine on a visit here to Afghanistan. Of course I couldn't break into my friends to get my own picture taken with anyone :(

Congratulations Mike! I have seen quite a couple of your images from Afghanistan and I wonder: do you intend to do some documentary-style work besides the portraits you take? It'd be really interesting to see images with that insider's perspective.

Thanks everyone. Bjorn, everything I take goes on the Unit's Facebook page. I have to be careful, I could get carried away posting all my pics here as well  I try to get Soldiers doing their job when I can but I really focus on trying to capture the Soldier for their families back home. This is the main photo album where everything goes:

This is the album that I just took yestarday with the visitors we had:

Thanks for sharing those links Mike! Just liked the page so I get to see all of the action.

Well, I'm good everyone, I can retire from photography, I'm done. I just got the best complement I could ever want. Our Brigade Commander, a Colonel in charge of 10-K Soldiers and civilians, and his own Public Affairs staff with 2 Journalists/Photographers says I am the best photographer in the unit. He even tried to have me moved to his Public Affairs staff as lead photographer but can't because I am the only Soldier in the unit that does my real job. Honestly when I took this it was just a quick snapshot and he loved it, made it his cover photo on Facebook.

It's compliments like that that should make you want to keep going Mike!
Whenever someone tells me my work reminds them of the photography of Cartier-Bresson or Elliott Erwitt (two main sources of inspiration) I get that little boost to go out and shoot more pictures. Hope you do the same!

Yes, it's a big boost to the ego so now I want to keep at it even more. My goal is to get at least one picture of all of my Soldiers. It's hard since a lot of them are on the road or work in closed off areas.

This pic has become very popular. Not a major publication, a city paper, Brookhaven MS, but front page, top fold :D

Well done Mike.

You've taken some good pictures and it's good when you get such positive feedback ( especially from someone who could affect your career).
