Is this worth it for the amature wildlife photographer?
200.00 makes me weary...but there is no way i can spend 1000.00 on a lens either.....

Well you get what you pay for! I haven't tested this, but wouldn't expect much for $200. Actually I think you can get it for $169 from Amazon.com!

The aperture is very slow: f8.3-f11, which becomes f16-f21 with the 2x converter.

This will produce a VERY dark view through the viewfinder and is probably too slow for most cameras to reliably autofocus.

But if you've only got $200 to spend, then it's an option - just don't expect miracles! There's some interesting user comments on Amazon's pages.

This is not even AF: so it's manual focus all the time!
And I know how hard this is with my 500mm F/8 mirror lens

this is a brand I have been skeptical about, if you buy it let me know how it works out and how sharp the glass is and such.

I saw a 650-1300mm as well...
that would mean 1300-2600 with a 2x converter
that would mean 2600-5200mm eq. on an Olympus!
I'm sure the image quality won't be that good, but 5200mm eq.!

I think that means shooting objects at 20 mile distance...

My guess is that a user review I read a while back about the "PHOENIX SUPER TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS 650mm TO 1300mm" applies equally here:

"It will have all the optical qualities of a coke bottle but you don't get the free fizzy drink".
