It's less amusing than the names suggest. Both will help me collimate a scope I have. I don't think it is giving what it should be capable of. Currently to adjust it, I have to point it at a real star and adjust some hex screw on it. Not fun. Bob's Knobs replace those screws so they can be adjusted by fingers alone. Also real stars are rather too wobbly, so the artificial star should resolve that. It is basically a precision pinhole with a LED behind it...

Thanks for the explanation. Obviously `things of purpose` rather than amusement.

Just went crazy with a D800(refurbished), 2 extra batteries, 5 400x 32gig Transcend CF cards, 4 64gb sdxc Transcend cards and a sb910. Paid €2635 for the lot. Chuffed and broke! Really Broke!

Bought a swing head for my (hopefully) soon to follow Gitzo Series 1 Carbon tripod. A Naturestuff NEK-4. The price was a huge factor for me here since I will be using it in combination with my 100-400 I really don't need a Wimberley yet. The price difference between the two: 500 euro for the Wimberley, 160 including lens plate for the NEK-4. Now saving up for (probably) a Gitzo GT1541 and a Gitzo GH1780QR ball head. I think this will be an awesome combination with my current and planned gear.

Not a material object, but training; I attended Syl Arena's one-day Speedliter's Intensive in Austin, Texas this past Tuesday. As with the same training I attended last year, it was well worth the cost. Better to have an older flashgun, and training, than the latest flashguns, and no training, though I did manage to acquire a pair of 600EX-RT flashguns shortly before the class.

I did not order the flashguns through the affiliate program, instead opting for local purchase, to help a brick & mortar seller who needs the business, but will soon buy Gordon a few cups of coffee, to compensate. :)

Bought a Canon EF 100-400L lens a couple of weeks ago. Never ever will I doubt that you really need quality glass.

Shortly after receiving my own April in Paris photo book in the mail I got Ninety-nine Years Leica as a present from my mother. Awesome book for all Leica enthusiasts, incredibly designed and illustrated.

More books! Just ordered Bruce Davidson's Black and White boxset. Spent a long time thinking about this set of books, because they are somewhat pricy, but 1) the photographer is great and 2) it's a limited edition of 2000 sets. So I went ahead and bought them. Also pre-ordered Elliott Erwitt's latest book Color, which should arrive toward the end of August.

Parrot AR drone 2.0. Taken enough images of the sky, now to take some from it!
