I have a question regarding optics (the theory, not lenses).
I understand, that a wide angle lens makes close subjects appear bigger and subjects far away appear smaller. This can for example be seen in portraits, which are shot with wide angle lenses, because the nose looks unproportionally big.
I guess that this effect decreases, when the distance of the subject increases, and that there is a point, where a face would be captured as seen with the human eye. Is that true? If so, can the optimal subject distance in terms of proportions be calculated based on the focal length?
I would be grateful if someone could explain this or point to a resource, where I could find more information. I googled it, but only found depth of field calculators, which is not what I am after...
