Welcome back Patti - from a while ago - I've neglected this thread too for a little while, and thought I'd catch up again with Florida ducks since my last post near the end of last year...

Mottled duck flying by:

Flock of blue-winged teals coming in for a landing on a rainy day:

This one I'm actually not positive...I think it's an American black duck:

A blue-winged teal:

Black-bellied whistling ducks:

Rare visitor to my area...a ruddy duck:

Blue-winged teals are abundant down here now:

Another very rare pair for us down south...a northern shoveler female:

And male:

Another mottled duck flyover:

nice zack... its amazing to see the ruddy's and their plumage down there... up here they seem so much more vibrant in colors. You can start sending em this way again whenever you feel like it  Im hoping the early birds start leaving your neck of the woods any week now

Great catches zack!!
That "Black" I believe is a hybrid, what we call a "Ballard" half black/half Mallard....see beak (Black) and tail curl (Mallard)

Got a few of the Harlequins this week plus a few Buffleheads in the harbor...

Wow KPR - you've got an awfully nice selection up there! I thought all the ducks left the north in the winter!! Seems your maritime climate is moderate enough to keep them around.

BTW, I think you're right on the black duck - I'm assuming a black/mallard hybrid, or a black/mottled hybrid. I posted an ID thread on him, and that seemed to also be the consensus.

Funny thing - we've been getting a lot of hybrids down here lately. This past weekend, I found this hybrid:

The male is a cinnamon/blue-winged teal hybrid. The cinnamons seem to mix most often with the blue-winged teals, which are more frequent down here anyway so it makes sense.

Awesome guys.... I'm missin' the waterfowl  ... we are supposed to get up to +2 this weekend... hoping its the beginning of the end of winter for us... we usually start seeing ducks here again around mid march so I'm keeping my fingers crossed... just a few more weeks... hopefully!!!

Only issue I foresee this year is the run-off we will see from all the snow which will probably make access a bit more difficult than usual.
