Hi all,

I've had my D3000 for nearly 3 years now and looking to upgrade the body around June time. I've been doing some reading of late into the D90 and the D7000.

The problem I'm having is justifying to myself can I part with £649 for the D7000 as opposed to the D90 at £419 (both new off Amazon). In the next few months does anyone see the D7000 dropping in price at all (even slightly) or do I risk the used route such as eBay?

I have read other forum entries with D90 vs. D7000 and hands down D7000 is the winner (better spec, future proof and so forth) but just wondered if some of you folks out there might have an idea around price reductions or other reliable sources for used bodies?

The price of the D7000 will go down when the D7100 comes out in March 21, 2013. I might be wrong but the used market for the D7000 might flood as people upgrade to the D7100.

If you have 4 months to find orientation what you want, I would wait and see what happens before that time with the prices before sticking to a specific camera. As Elduke said, the D7100 could make the price of the D7000 drop even more before June arrives.

If you're thinking about buying in June odds are high the D7000 will come down in price by then with the launch of the D7100.

The D90 is slowly disappearing from the market, except as a used camera body. I did a bit of research on it compared to newer bodies, and it's probably not worth getting unless there is something specific you get with the D90 that you won't get with a D5100/5200.

Yes, there are a couple things I really liked about the D90 that set it apart from the D3x00/5x00.

I have a hunch Stef is going to buy a D7000 anyway!

I have a D90 which I love dearly. In the shop I work in we still sell it, but the 7xxx are streets ahead as you are probably aware. As others have commented the D7000 will probably drop in price, although bear in mind that the 7100 is not a replacement so the 7000 will not be cleared out of shops to make way for the new line.

Prices usually start high for a few months of products life and then drop as market forces kick. It will be interesting to see how quickly, and how low, prices drop of the D7100 in the absence of Jessops who frequently were 1st to cut their prices on the high street. I work in John Lewis and we were often responding to Jessops prices by lowering our own. Our camera prices seem to be fluctuating a lot less of late.

Finally, the camera manufacturers will normally have cashback offers available in the spring/summer to help kick start sales in the shops so that may be worth waiting for as well.

So stand firm a few months if you can!

Thanks for the Michduncg, got no problems waiting a few months and see how the prices pan out.

I suppose its difficult due to knowing my exact budget at the time but any advice around brand new or try pick up a decent conditioned, used body and save a few pound? Pitfalls etc....

Also, been reading a few reviews here and there and notice people have had trouble with the Autofocus. Back focussing (need an explination on what that is) and lens tuning? From what I gather these are isolated incidents or is it more user error?

Depending on how old these messages are, I would suspect most of these messages are from people that bought it as soon as it hit the shelves (early adopters). If so, and it wasn't user error, Nikon should have released a fix for this by now. Try reading back the firmwares history if that would be true.

As an owner of the D7000 I have never had a problem and I’m very happy with it, I've read a few comments about faults but I guess like all items you can get the odd dud, this also happens to high priced cars. At first I thought the battery was weak and then realised I was going through the menus for hours when learning how to drive it. I bought a spare battery because of this and now I never need it, the best shot rate I got from the battery was 1200 plus shooting a marathon using jpeg fine and large.

If you have a bab guess you want the best shots so it may be well to consider what you want to shoot and also think about your future lenses. Although new models sound exciting, the D7000 meets my needs so I'll stick with it.

I also had the D7000 from when it first came out & (apart from possible oil-spatter, which wasn't an issue later) never had any focus issues. In a way I wish I still had the camera. At the current prices it's a steal! I don't think you'd be disappointed in the least.
