nice one, love seeing the footprints in the snow.

That taken with a DSLR and a big zoom, framed slightly different and with that background would have made a really nice shot. Some nice elements there.

Sorry Pier, I'd fix it but it came up here so I am not sure why it didn't work for you.

Nice catch, Janern. I tried many times to get a picture of a peacock with its tail up - no luck yet. I didn't think peacocks stayed around in the cold, but there's a lot of birds in your pictures. Is this in a bird sanctuary? All the other birds in your picture stay around here in the winters too.

Thanks :)

I wouldn't call it a sanctuary, but it's a park in my city which consists of four ponds of which one is fenced (this one)
It was cold up until yesterday. Today has been rainy and the ice on this pond was full of water and it looked a lot more miserable than yesterday!

Next on my peacock list is to get a shot of one in flight. I only realized this year that they actually do fly when I saw this one do it

Great set Nelepl, some really nice images there, I think that my favourite is "low fly".

Wow - I sort of lost track of how long it's been since I posted in this thread...got sidetracked, had a few vacation trips, and just forgot to check in here.

So, by way of catching up, here are some various birds I've been capturing around Florida this winter, since my trip down to central America...

great shots as always you 2... nelepl... do you all have open water already? Zack.. love the heron courtship.

We are supposed to start getting nicer here next week... Im keeping my fingers crossed... 2 nights ago we hit 51 below up here and its really starting to get old... winter needs to end.

The deer have lost most of their fat reserves and are starting to struggle. In the deep snow we got this year (more than 3 times the average snowpack) they are becoming easy prey for coyotes and the weak stand no chance any more. Such are the ways of a long cold winter....

Amazing and ironic how you are having a fairly hard winter, and we're having NONE. Down here in Florida, we're going through the second winter in a row where the winter simply never came. Other than no more than a handful of days, and never more than 3 days in a row, we've been staying consistently in the 80s or higher since April of 2011! Two straight years - no winter snap. The jet stream has simply stayed up north and won't dip down our way, and the few fronts that have dropped in stalled out over South Florida and backed up within 1-2 days...our lowest temps were in the upper 40s on only 3 days this winter.
