From a couple of nights back, I was blessed with a few clear hours in what has been non-stop clouds, rain, and today snow. This is the Meissa region of Orion which sits in the middle and just above Betelgeuse and Bellatrix. This is the result of 8 x 20-minute subs using all 3 M26C cameras, and the faint background red which fills the whole region is only JUST starting to show through. I'll need to grab some narrow-band H-alpha with the Sky 90 to see if I can bring some more out.

Is this the big round red bit on the top? That's what I call it anyway... and that's all I've ever seen it as. In yours... there's definitely structure appearing so would definitely like to see more of that.

Yep - the big, seemingly featureless huge round red thing in the head of Orion. As you say, if someone spent some time on it at higher resolution, I think there's actually quite a lot of detail in there waiting to be pulled out.

Wide field suits me, so I might even have a go at it myself if we ever get another clear night before Orion leaves the dark skies. It being higher up might help keep it above the trees a bit longer too!
