Does anyone have a 1DX? If so, let's talk about it!

I'll start! ...um, it takes good pictures. Of course, that's just my opinion. OK, moving on...

Seriously though, one feature that I really like, and that is often overlooked because I suspect a lot of people don't realize it, is that in spot meter mode the spot isn't dead-center like other Canons, but follows the AF point.

What are features exclusive to this camera that you like or appreciate?

Well, since no replies have been posted by 1DX owners, I figured I would say hello and say I am wishing for a 1DX as an eventual purchase.

I have handled a 1DX, and must say it is a very hefty camera, compared to a 5D Mark III. I reckon this is OK for shooting from a tripod, and as I plan to do some serious bird and wildlife shooting shooting in the future, the 1DX is at the top of my wish list, with its excellent ability to track fast-moving birds. The longer life expectancy of the shutter is another plus, as is the superior weather-sealing.

If I retire from my present occupation within the production cycle of the 1DX, it is likely I will "roll" some tax-deferred savings in order to purchase one. I would love to have a 1DX to use at work, now, for evidentiary photography, but really, a cropped-frame camera suffices.

I actually just got to play with one today at the downtown Toronto Henry's shop... It's a nice piece of kit, for sure. The buttons are sturdy, the body is a tank, and it just feels good in your hands. Dual cards would be amazingly handy for butt-saving backups, and the integrated grip is quite excellent. It was perfectly balanced with the 24-70L II they had it mounted with, so I imagine most lenses would feel perfectly at home on it.

For $6700 CAD, I'd expect nothing less than perfect and aside from the AF points being hard to find in the dark, it's an amazing camera. If I had any real complaints about it in the 2-3 minutes I was messing about with it, is that the silent mode isn't nearly as quiet as the 5D3 (which I also played with extensively today), and that the lack of the toggle switch between LiveView and Movie mode was slightly annoying.

But seriously, the 12fps was just... wow. I'd played with a 1D3 a few years ago and 10fps was impressive. This was jaw-dropping. I'd literally never need that, but it was amazing to hear the sound in person.

but ye there's soo many improvements on it, all the new features on it is jaw dropping!

I have a 1DX - it is a great camera for sure. Some recent photos for trainerpotter.com SS13 collection. They liked the idea of creating gifs for blogs, where the 12 shots a second really came in handy. Photo below plus the gif below that.

To get a taste of what it is like to truly live with a big pro camera over an extended period of time, which would help me decide whether to adjust my financial priorities toward a 1D X, I recently acquired a quite gently-treated, pre-owned 1D Mark II N. Thus far, I am liking it, with the additional weight not being an excessive burden, though the true test will be an all-day walk-about, when I can find the time.

If Karl Grobl can tote a pair of big pro cameras, I reckon I can tote one.
