I am considering two options:

Keep my 5D Mk II and buy a used 7D for wildlife & action shooting

or,

Sell my 5D Mk II and buy a 5D Mk III as a kind of "catch all".

Anyone out there who shoots wildlife with their 7D or Mk III and what are your impressions?

The low light ability of the Mk II is nice for early morning/late evening shooting but the AF accuracy and shots per sec are a bit limiting for moving critters. How good is the AF accuracy of the 7D and MkIII?

Have you looked through the wildlife posts? Most of the pictures posted there have the camera used also posted. You could look at the pictures and see if any of them are the type you'd be after and see if they used either of the cameras you mentioned. I'd also check the Duck of the Day and Feathered friends threads. If you don't get an answer to your post here, and see someone using the cameras you are interested in when looking at the wildlife posts, you could always send that person a personal message. Good luck! and I hope to see wildlife posts from you soon. I'm also looking for a better camera for wildlife so will be interested to see what you decide on and how well it works.

I actually have considered a 3rd option: buying a used EOS 1D Mk III.

There was an intital teething problem with that camera with its AF servo mode and focus accuracy. It was resolved with Canon tech service and firmware updates. Just something to be aware of if you look for one and make sure it was fixed.

I am looking at the 1D Mk III for two reasons: FPS speed (10 frames per second with a 30 frame RAW burst) and the ability to auto focus with the EF 1.4x tele attached to my EF 100-400. Well, those reasons and also because it is a 1 series. lol

I'm still doing my research but am currently leaning towards the 1D Mk III. I'd still keep my 5D Mk II for the resolution and low light ability, though I'll probably upgrade in a year or so when the 5D Mk III drops a bit in price.

Mind you, the 5D3 can AF with the 100-400mm + 1.4x Extender too
