Regarding MTK's 7D question, from above:

The second one I purchased, as a pre-owned item from a local camera store, tends to front-focus with most lenses. With my 100L Macro IS, however, it works fine, and so that combination remains together almost all the time. As I acquired the second 7D to minimize changing lenses while at work, anyway, and the 100mm is my most-used lens, this is not a problem; I have not bothered to try micro-focus adjustment with other lenses.

I have, thus far, been unable to get firmware updates to work, but that is probably a reflection of my quite shallow understanding of computers. I cannot blame the cameras for that.

The 7D is certainly sturdy, certainly much tougher than a original "Classic" 5D, though "tank" is probably a better description of the 1D-series. On that subject, I just won the bidding on a 1D Mark IIN, which appeared very clean in the auction photos, and is supposed to have a very low shutter count. I am awaiting its arrival. I will probably order a battery for it Monday, as I doubt the originai will still
perform optimally. This will give me sufficient MP for my work photos, a very high level of weathersealing, and a second memory card slot, for instant back-up. The APS-H sensor will be a compromise in size, between full-frame and APS-C. It should be interesting!

(Edited to prune excess quoted material.) :)

Wow very cool. Was thinking about buying a 1D Mark III myself, but the 7D outperforms it in many ways (at least that is what I read everywhere). Still the weather sealing of the 1D-line is probably even more advanced, so please let us know what your experiences are once you have taken your new 1D Mark IIN out to play :).

Please quote responsibly gents, or else we'll have to say goodbye to the quote button again.

My sincerest apologies: I had no idea there was a rule concerning the length of quotes. I will try and keep quoting to a minimum.

WOW, I didn't buy it per-say but I am now the proud owner of a Manfrotto 161MK2B Super pro tripod. It's missing the plate for the clamp and really needs a ball head BUT I now have my first piece of real studio equipment :D

Lol, you didn't buy it. So what did you do? Steal it? :P I think they sell those plates at certain stores too, so I think you can complete your nice new tripod :).

Have you ever cleaned house and didn't know what something was for, and say you didn't have the paperwork as to why you had it so you tossed it out? Well, someone saw a camera tripod in a place that needed cleaning out and they don't have any paperwork as to who owns it, so what do they do, ask their favorite camera guy if he wants it 8)

What I need to know is does the Custom SLR M-Plate http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007X5MQEI/ref=s9_simh_gw_p421_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1PD42WVQKS39ZXP29K74&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846 work as a replacement? The SLR M-Plate says it replaces a Manfrotto RC2. The adaptor on this Manfrottos says it uses a Manfrotto 200PL plate??

Sorry can't help you there. I have no knowledge whatsoever on this matter. Maybe you can ask someone at a respectable store?

I just took delivery of a Canon 1D Mark IIN! As the seller indicated, it seems to be like new! :) A new battery will probably be a good idea, of course, as Ni-MH batteries do not tolerate long-term storage very well; this camera was three generations ago in the 1D series. This is a hefty, solid, professional camera, with substantial weather-sealing, so I will soon be shopping for more weather-sealed lenses, as available funds allow.

Low MP, yes, but I shoot JPEGs at work, which are made into rather small prints, for the criminal justice system, and I do not normally make large prints of my personal images. The APS-H sensor, with a 1.3x crop factor, is a compromise between the 1.6x APS-C sensor, and full-frame; it will be interesting to try my familiar lenses with this sensor size.

Mike, Manfrotto changed some of their nomenclature recently, and I certainly do not understand much of their studio tripod terminology, but an experienced employee of a camera shop such as Adorama should be able to answer your question.

Congratulations on your new tripod! :)

Just purchased a bundle of Think Tank gear inc belt, harness, holster and lens changers. Getting ready for the Avalon Airshow on Friday. Avalon will also be the first outing for the relatively new 100-400mm lens.

Got it fitted and set up tonight. Seems to work well and on the face of it way better than having to take the shoulder bag which is also Think Tank to the event like i've done before.

Test will be how i feel about 9pm Friday night.

Just made my first commitment to flash photography. I've had 2 Canon 430EX II but not much of a chance to use them.

I just ordered cheep 2-flash off camera kit (4 really cheep umbrellas (2 shoot thru white and 2 silver) 2 cheep stands, 2 umbrella/flash mounts and a bag) 33-foot off camera cable and an optical trigger for the second flash, a large 5-1 reflector that I think will also work for black or white backgrounds (but may fight me in the wind  ), 32-gig CF card so i can shoot RAW full time (I only have 2-gig right now, about 150 RAW shots), and a set of gels to play with. Told the wife was only going to spend $150 but went up to $215 -ops  I'm in Afghanistan, what is she going to do, ground me from taking pictures
