Thanks to Gordon and his awesome reviews, I pulled the trigger on a D7000 upgrade over my current D80. Can't wait to try in out!

Help The D7000 slot #1 will not read the SD cards, error says the cards may be damaged. I tried them in Slot #2 and it reads ok. Anyone had this problem or has a fix for it.

Fixed. I’ll leave this here, it may be of use down the track.

I formatted the #1 card on the PC and then in #2 slot on the camera formatted it again It worked back into #1 slot. The same happened to my usual #2 card. I used it because I forgot to put the #1 card back in. Can't understand why 2 cards would not read in the #1 slot at the same time.

I normally only format my cards in camera.

I am the proud owner on a D7000 and gradually working my way through all the setting
And features. Will probably have a few queries for all you experts, but look forward
To reciprocating help as i get a bit more expert myself.

Welcome to the forum Iain, I’m sure you will be happy with the D7000. Going through the manual as you suggested is the best and quickest way to drive it.

I am currently reading the a book "Mastering the Nikon D7000" by Darrall Young an find this to be an excellent insight into this camera.

I used to do a bit of photography back in the 70's with a Practica film camera. After a few years I then did very little as a I began to run my own business, but a few years back I bought a Canon SX1 bridge camera which I found so difficult to use due to the menu and controls, that it kinda got used in Auto mode all the time which dulled my enthusiasm to get back into photography.

However I have to say that the D7000 has re-kindled my enthusiasm due to its slick controls and features. I do think I am going to enjoy this !

I've had mine for a couple of years now & still haven't used all the features!

I read in one forum that many experience the dust spots after shooting at aperture f22 as a result of the small aperture opening somehow collects dust. There may a few more knowledgeable regarding the dust after shooting at f22.

This may be the result of not having the latest firmware updates on your D7000. Please see below

An error where the card may not have been recognized when some memory cards were used has been addressed.
The following issues occurred when the mode dial was rotated from U1 or U2 to another shooting mode or from another shooting mode to U1 or U2 when the power was off or when the exposure meters are off (Auto meter-off). These issues were resolved.
A new folder is sometimes created despite the fact that the current folder does not yet contain 999 files and none of the files are numbered “9999”.
The number of remaining exposures may not be displayed as specified in the settings.
The setting for Role played by card in Slot 2 may change between Overflow, Backup, and RAW Slot 1- JPEG Slot 2.
An issue where Battery info in the setup menu sometimes showed sufficient remaining charge even when the remaining charge for the AA batteries inserted in the MB-D11 battery pack was low has been resolved.
An issue where a saved photo may not have been displayed properly when a movie was displayed in playback mode while saving the photo has been resolved.
An issue where zoom in or zoom out may not have performed properly when the playback zoom in or playback zoom out button was pressed while in Live view has been resolved.
The message displayed when the internal memory of the Wireless Transmitter WT-4 is formatted from the Format transmitter's memory under Device settings in Wireless transmitter of the camera’s setup menu was changed from Done to Built-in memory formatted.

Thanks kamaccord, I did have firmware B 1.03. From memory I had reached 999 shots and only realised a bit later when my photo numbers had reverted to 0, maybe this caused the problem.

Your post prompted me to look for updates and found one from 3 days ago being A: 1.03 and B: 1.04. I'll post this info in a new thread to enable users to spot it quickly as the D7000 is old with the new D71000.

4xxxx, that update did not fix any issues as far as Nikon lets out in the "what's new" section, just additional support for the 800mm VR lens.

Yes you are correct, if I fix the holes in my pocket I may be able to afford the 800 mm lens and my camera is ready for it.
