We will all suffer eventually from high street stores closing. We won't be able to hold/try items & eventually online prices will increase. Very sad.

Also, we won't be able to support this site through them if they go.

Sorry to hear about Jesspos closing, are there enough other major photo retailors in the UK to keep competition at its maximum and prices down? Here in Winnipeg we have a major Canadian chain, along with a chain that operates across the prairie provinces, and a few local places.

There are still a couple of major retailers, A few small `chains` & still quite a few independents on the high streets ....for now, but with the cheap online sellers, it's only a matter of time before the little guys are gone. In fact ALL shopping will be online in a few years & `shops` will hardly exist.

Govts also must be losing a fortune in import duties, tax etc to the cheap sellers online + local councils losing out on business taxes etc with shops closing, due mainly to superstores & out of town shopping centres/malls.

btw, it's just been announced they HAVE gone into Admin. & won't be accepting gift vouchers.

Sad news for employees, but not entirely unexpected. I remember a couple of years ago, they stopped stocking/selling Pentax for a period. There were stories at the time that Pentax wouldn't supply them with stock on credit. Also, I only ever bought stuff from them when it was on special as their "normal" prices (especially for accessories like memory cards and camera batteries) seemed to be quite high (when compared to any on line retailers - upto 3 to 4 times the price).
I have to say that the largest purchases I have made since getting back into photography have been from a single store photographic specialist that also have a very good web store, with competitive prices. This has suited me as the shop is within an hours travel, so I have tried everything first before either buying in store or later online.
