... because there's no reason to upload a 20 MB RAW file on the net which no site can show. RAW files are meant to be processed into JPEGs (or TIFFs). Also a RAW file cannot be different from another RAW file from another camera. It's down to the lens (and sensor) used, mostly to the lens though. If you dont like Nikon's photos because of the contast, it may be the lens which causes that.
Trust me, you wouldnt be looking at RAW files yourself once you have a camera. You will process them, which means... well, you know it already.

Took me a grand total of 5 minutes... searching Google with <camera name> "raw file download".

You'll need software like Lightroom, ACR, or something else to actually be able to render the RAW file, otherwise all you will see is the embedded JPEG file. But I do hope you actually know that to view a RAW file, you HAVE to process it, one way or another. YOU define sharpness, contrast, white balance, etc, etc...

Any RAW converter will do the job. I love Adobe PS CSx, but there's also the free Gimp which is kind off the same. The highest JPEG output of PS puts some quite big JPEG file sizes out of it, so the quality loss is not a big deal (which means a JPEG can look like a RAW...). The best is TIFF of course, both PS and Gimp can put them out too.

Note the section that says To obtain an image from a raw file, this mosaic of data must be converted into standard RGB form. This is often referred to as "raw development".

Everything that's said by other users has been completely right... and so is that you/anyone has more than enough pixels with 6 megapixels. Back then, professional photographers loved the Canon G3 for it's great detail delivered by its 4 megapixel sensor.
Why would normal people like you need more than professionals back then?
