Only have a few minutes but my thoughts are as follows...
#1 I love this site and plan on being here for some time...
#2 It is sad to see that some of the ppl who first drew me to this site are now gone but such is the way of these things as we all evolve and many times our interests change or we simply decide to travel a different path.
#3 I've often thought when reading posts in the past that asked a question "man just take a few minutes and look through the site as that question has been asked and answered multiple times". Thining back however I can see how the average user with only so much time just doesnt want to spend that time "searching" or feels his/her time could be better spent. When looking at the forums right now many times actual tips or answers are buried within pages upon pages of posts which are more social posts than posts that relate to tips, ideas or questions. I came to cameralabs to learn but for me it has evolved, as mentioned in a prior post, to more of a socail place for me to share my wildlife experiences while all the time willing to share what I know of course... but again.. I came here to learn and I found it a great place to do that.
#4 I think it is important for cameralabs to stick with what
I think its original goal was which to me was an educational site where ppl could come to learn about all aspects of photography as well as gain understanding from Gordon's reviews and make buying their gear that much easier.
#5 IF cameralabs was to figure out a way how to seperate the social from the tips and reviews I think you would get the best of both worlds... The reviews would always stand alone as they do now which is great but the tips as well would stand alone making it that much easier for new members to navigate the site to find their answers hopefully in a quick and easy way... while those who have been here for a while would hopefully gradually take interest in the ongoing social aspect of the site which would still revolve 100% around photography.
#6 IF this social aspect of the site could have the appearence and ease of use of some of the more advanced social sies out there today all the better ... if like I said to enter a post there would be fields which needed to be filled in, even though your post would fall in line as the newest post in the forum and as such one can easily keep up to ALL the most recent posts in one forum, the fields you filled in would drop the post into subforums pertaining to a country, area, city.. you get the idea... and if the forum had a world map on the main page above the posts one could easily choose to read the individual random post in order of date posted much like we do now or if that person is more interested in a particular reagion he could just click on the region on the world map and it would list for them all the posts made about that region...
I have to go.. hope that above makes sense as I just basically babbled it out and never reread it but those are my thoughts... when I get home Ill correct anything above in case I totally screwed up what I meant...
