Its a British term. It means a street musician/entertainer who performs for money. Years ago they would all have been unlicensed/unofficial. The tube (London Underground train) employees were constantly chasing them out of the long winding station passageways.

Nowadays the tube has official busker patches in stations and they are allowed (or at least tolerated) in certain locations, such as the South Bank of the Thames.

This is the sort of guy you would have seen in the old days (and still do)

and this rather attractive chap can be found "performing" on the South Bank...


I seem to recall there were a couple of cases of world famous classical violinists/cellists popping up and performing in tube stations, much to the delight of passing passengers.

So Carl, where was your shot taken? That is quite a tan he has there, is it around the Mediterranean? Lots of great texture, both in the face and the wall
