My concrete block is in place, also just received a telegizmos cover so I'll be ready to set up if my back stops playing up.

Just ordered a Nexus 7 to replace the Blackberry Playbook, the latter being rather limited and I would sell except it seems no one else wants them either...

Coo, guessing games! OK, I'll bite and guess "CGEM - 800".

Whatever your choice - Congratulations! Will you have it by Christmas?

Bob.

Actually it's an older used one, which helps a lot with the price. Unfortunately I've recently started getting back ache so I'm not up for the drive to collect it immediately. Worst case seller will drop it off in a month or so, or if my back gets better soon I'll be heading that way sooner!

Sorry for the ignorance but what is an SCT? A quick search on Google tells me it's a "Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope", am I right? Thanks :)

Yup, it is. Basically a scope that primarily uses mirrors, but also has a refractive corrector plate to improve the image. Compared to camera lenses, relatively long and slow at 2000mm f/10 I think. Should be a good planet hunter if I can get some more focal length out of it. This will test my aiming skills!

I bet it will be interesting, and if you use it with a crop sensor you will be getting 3200mm, a really nice reach if you ask me. Aiming will be hard, have fun! :D

Who said I'm using a sensor as big as APS-C? :D Effective focal lengths at this point don't really have much value.

SII, OIII and NII narrowband filters to complement my H-alpha filter, all for astrophotography.

Oh, and a hydrogen discharge tube so I can actually see what colour a hydrogen emission nebula actually is if it were bright enough to trigger the eye's colour vision!

Bob.

What size/bandwidth filters did you go for? And getting a H tube is dedication to colour calibration!

I'm just about to pull the trigger on 6TB of storage... I will not run out!

Hi popo,

3nm. That gives me good separation of NII from Ha and I stuck with the same bandwidth for the other two just because I could. H-beta is the only one missing from the set now but I probably won't be going there for at least a year, if ever. Christmas is now officially cancelled at Andersson Towers!

The hydrogen discharge tube comes as a set with one for oxygen and one for nitrogen as well. That conversation over at PAIG got me thinking that I ought to actually do the experiment myself. My colour vision is pretty good but it will still be a result personal to me and my monitors, both the wide gamut one and the MacBook Air one.

Bob.

My dream set of filters too, but that's one for after I go CCD and possibly new optics. Even at the small size, their prices are enough to make your eyes water.

Elsewhere: I now have in the back of my car the 8" SCT. Now for the longest three hours until I go home...

Just swapped out my Tamron AF Di 70-300 f/4-5.6 LD Macro for a Nikon AF-S DX 55-300 f/4.5-5.6G VR. Sooo nice to have VR on a tele lens :-) and much faster focus lock.

A new white lens hood for my 100-400mm lens. Come on - a big white lens with a black lens hood? What did Canon think?
