Well in my opinion, after considering all of what I've read in this post, I think you're going to be quite happy with the 24-105mm

One more thing, if the term "kit lens" is part of your issue with gettting this lens, then recall that while Canon may sell their 5DIII in a kit, you are getting a L lens and not some random cheap lens.
This is not their least expensive L lens either.
This is a lens that a lot of people buy separately because they enjoy it that much.

You have look for other options, and even if you were buyi8ng separately, it seems that this is the lens you would be going for.
So buy buying them together, you are just saving yourself some money.
