Okay the past few months been on the hunt for a GOOD image quality camera.. I had a Canon HS300 or something like that and Sold it for a better zoom camera, Bought a Panisonic Lumix Z20 Video was amazon and pics were so so too much noise. Then I bought a Samsung WB150 and the NOISE was WAY worse worse than my Galaxy Note II phone.

Which one of these would you recommend? For Image Quality ? Canon PowerShot SX230HS Or the SX150 IS?


So which one has better image quality? I mainly Do Nature,Landscape and the occasional Full Moon I dont do personal photos just Nature

Well... in the end the improvement isn't really going to be spectacular - it's still a small sensor inside that camera...

But still I think the SX230 is a nice little camera in good light.

Yea, But I think its horrible but my Phone`s are doing better jobs at this. Than the Camera. If I had the money I would get me a DSLR. I had one before for a little over a year and I sold it to go on a trip:(

Well you might consider slightly more expensive larger sensor compacts...cameras like the Canon S100/110, Olympus XZ1, and Panasonic LX7 have sensors 20% larger than the usual P&S sensors, so can perform a little better in lower light situations. Step up to the Sony RX100 and you get a pretty big 1" sensor (P&S cameras typically have a 1/2.5" sensor..so less than 1/2 the size of the RX100). Consider the Nikon Series 1 also with a 1" sensor and interchangeable lenses - you can buy some of them cheap on sale now. Consider the Canon G1X which has a very large sensor even bigger than the RX and almost the size of DSLR sensors. The Olympus and Panasonic Micro 4:3 cameras with interchangeable lenses also have large 4:3 sensors which are a little smaller than a DSLR sensor. And finally, the Sony NEX and Samsung NX mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras have huge APS-C sized sensors that are the exact same ones in many DSLRs.

The bigger the sensor, the better the image quality and handling of low light situations with lower noise at higher ISOs.

The problem with those large sensor compacts is the low reach. Sometimes you just need a higher focal length when you are outside. Isn't a used DSLR an acceptable solution? Take a look at how much a Canon EOS 30D, a Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS and a EF 100-300mm cost when bought used - the 30D isn't a really new camera but it's still better in low light than any small sensored point and shoot camera.

The best camera's the one that's with you, I'd like to second Jiko to buy a used DSLR. It's really worth it. Otherwise, the Canon S100 is the cheapest ''better than average'' camera on the market (well, better than average, it's a really good camera to be fair!).

There's no such thing as a mirrorless DSLR as has been previously pointed out. Fair enough if that's what you call it but when addressing others, you really should steer away from referring to such cameras that way as you'd be spreading misleading information.
