You've got 24MP to play with now - don't compromise!

I'm selling my 14-24....

I'm just about to review the D600 and D800 for a local magazine, and will have both in my hands for a week.

It will be interesting to compare with my D700 - 12,24, 36MP Full Frame lineup

What focal length did you use your 11-16 at on DX? That's the question. If you want wide, you've got the 14-24 or the Sigma 12-24 (I think) - Nothing is going to be light, and if you discounted the D800 over the D600 due to weight alone then why not use your 11-16 in DX mode on the D600?

I had a 10-20 Sigma on DX and it was OK. 14-24 is light years ahead - still one of the very best or best out there. The Zeiss 15mm will be interesting but very very expensive.

The D600 will not be as sensitive to technique or lens quality as the D800, but personally I'd go for as good quality as possible on a Full Frame sensor.

Well if you're using 11mm on DX, you'll be wanting 14 or 15mm on FX - it's going to get expensive, and heavy

He he!

I've just put my 14-24mm up on our local classified! I just don't use it enough and want to release funds for a 25mm f2 lens - go figure!

No complains about the lens though - far from it - just that I don't use it anywhere near enough

I have seen sources that indicate the Tokina 11-16mm can be shot at 16mm without using the DX crop mode; that it behaves as an FX lens if zoomed to 16mm. Try that, perhaps, to see if 16mm is sufficiently wide for your D600. (I know my Tokina-made Vivitar 17mm lens is quite wide when used on a full-frame camera.) Of course, on your D600, setting the 11-16mm at anything other than 16mm will result in sever vignetting, though that could be used as an intentional effect, if desired.

This is a big reason I am considering the Tokina Nikon-fit 11-16mm, as I could use it on my Nikon F6 at 16mm, and as an ultra-wide zoom on my D70s, plus my wife could use it on her D7000, providing us with a range of utility. (The F6 is a 35mm film camera, equivalent to FX DSLRs.)

With D800 you only should use the best of the best lenses. 36MP will reveal a lot of details.
i use a Nikkor 12-24mm on A Nikon D7000 and I think its the sharpest lens I own, I don't even have to use sharpening tools in post processing because that leads to over sharpening effects even with the slightest little change.

Since you use full frame I can only recommend Nikkor 14-24mm lens or 16-35mm.
Personally if I would go full frame i would choose 16-35mm lens because i think it is a bit better range for me.
I don't know if the 16-35mm is good enough for the D800, maybe somebody can comment on it.
Most people seem to go with 14-24mm for some reason, I guess it depends what range you need.

I would get the 14-24mm if it light but i think it a bit too big for most of me travel shots plus 24-70mm.Is there much difference just 2 mm apart for wide angel?Use to have the tokina 11-16mm always had wide open at 11 mm.

Hey - I'm still trying to get my head round you originally picking a D600 because it was lighter.

I have a D600 in one hand and a D800 in the other. Not a massive difference, especially if they're not gripped.
