Hi there,

Earlier today I picked up a Nikon 35mm f1.8G for my D3100 - so far I am loving it! Love the wide aperture, size, sharpness etc.

However, I was just wondering how tight the focus ring should be? Mine seems pretty loose; it rattles slightly when I turn it. Also, should it keep turning all the way round and never stop, or should it only turn a certain amount? Mine keeps on turning - there is no way of knowing when it has reached the min/max focus distance.

Thanks for your help!

Ranald

It is OK that the focus-ring can be turned around and around. BUT: there should be a little higher resistance/friction to turning once the focus has achieved either infinity or minimum focus distance. If there is no change in friction at all the coupling mechanism is certainly not up to specs.
anyway: why bother if AF works perfect?
