Wouldn't the focusing overlay look wierd though?

nope, the focusing overlay doesnt see through the lens, it uses the other window on the side to do the focusing.

Camera manufacturers want, and need, to earn money. Sales are the source of this money, and a substantial numbers of sales are to "toy collectors" and dilettantes. With fewer sales, and therefore less money, there is less incentive for manufacturers to keep a good product in production, and less incentive for innovation. Moreover, a higher volume of sales tend to help keep prices lower, for all of us, overall. Therefore, I welcome the "green box" photographers!

The story says they were standing at the edge of the pin and changed lenses when it slipped from her hand

Hi Canon, yes my lens stopped working.
CANON- what seems to be the problem?
Well it won't autofocus and it seems to have moisture in the lens
CANON - Moisture, that's odd, the lens is weather sealed
Yes, I think it may be bear slobber
CANON- ??????
