This was a little too quick of a shot with my 35 f/2 of my new (old) Canon FD 35-105 f/3.5 Macro on my T2i/550D

Well - maybe you can remember a shot I've taken for the "Decemberfest Assignment"? Well - if you are using Google+ and if you have me somewhere in your circles you might have seen this, yet.

(0)
Image
Canon EOS 300D
Canon EF 50mm 1.8 II
Canon Speedlite 580EX II
F5.6
ISO 100
1/25 sec

Against what I thought about it many people quite liked that shot and woking on an application portfolio I asked some friends which shots I should use. Several times I heard "THIS ONE! No matter what else, THIS ONE has to be in it!" Hmmmkay... but the shot was taken with a 6 Megapixel 300D... not I have the EOS 5D Mark III so I decided I could try it again. The book is still there; I even found the same page again and used other glasses this time. That's what I got out of the camera:

(1)
Image
Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Canon EF 24-105mm 4L IS USM @73mm
Canon Speedlite 580EX II
F16
ISO 800
1/60 sec

Canon EOS 5D Mark III
Canon EF 24-105mm 4L IS USM @82mm
Canon Speedlite 580EX II
F16
ISO 800
1/60 sec

Now I have a problem. I can't decide which one I like the best - which one would you prefer?

I like the original one, something about the light reflecting on the arms. The shape of the glasses and the text that is visible in the lens, it just works.

The glasses in the bottom two are a bit smaller so maybe try a different position of the glasses.
Have you considered redoing the last two with the glasses in a different position?

the slight red tint in the first new one is off putting but the text stands out more, but in the last one I like seeing the text in the glasses. Maybe a slightly darker exposure for the last one and move the glasses back a bit??

The problem with the old glasses is that they had six hinges without any will to stay in position and it was a pain in the you know where until I had the shot. And there is a second problem: Somehow they got lost and the only glasses I found were these.

But well - yeah... the main criticism I heard about the picture was that one of the glasses was empty.

How do you think about this one?

And yes - I tried different positions and even added other books but somehow I didn't find any position that looked as satisfying as the original one.

It's quite nicer like that, I actually liked this first one more than the original, good job :)

I like the second set of shots, the variation of light on the book adds some interest. However I'm not a fan of the other position - having the glasses folded seems awkward to me.

Nice pics though, any of them will go well in a portfolio.

Today I had a little walk in the forest and it was just great to have the EOS 5D Mark III with me - it was pretty dark there and I really had to use pretty high ISO values in order not to shake. Usually I'd rather use a tripod for those situations but as I wasn't alone I had to keep up with the others - not so easy when you are composing a shot. But here a friend told me to look up - and I did, changed my lens and shot that picture.
