Will be interesting to see Canon's answer to that - now that even the MUCH cheaper Nikon has more MP than the 5Diii.
A 4D perhaps?

6D!! Just announced - all inferior specs compared to D600 except it has Wi-fi and GPS!!!!

I seriously thinking about brand switching.

Hi Guys, here is a great review which I just found.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IosQ4xCJ ... re=g-all-u

I obviously did not make this but it looks great and is actually one of the better reviews I have seen for any camera

D600 looks like a very nice new camera. I see it more like a slightly improved D7000 with full frame sensor.
Many hobby/enthusiast photo-people are gonna be very happy with a D600.

I probably would choose a D600 over a D800 because My computer is gonna struggle with 36Mp raw files.
Its good we finally have a choice between enthusiast full frame D600 camera, and D800 or D4 professional camera.

Canon is trying to do the same thing with the 6D but the specs of the 6D look a bit under par compared to what Nikon has to offer these days.

It is interesting that everyone keeps referring to the D600 as an enthusiast camera, as if pros or anyone that makes money from their gear will not be interested in this camera.

I am by no means a pro but I do make money from my photos and I think the D600 looks great and offers things that the D800 does not. I actually went down to my local shop and played with one today.
I had a D7000, D600 and D800 side by side and actually preferred the "feel" of the D600. The body is actually more like a D300s than a d7000, however the button layout is nearly exactly the same the D7000. The U1 & U2 settings on the D600 are extremely relevant to me and lacking on the D800, while the AF on the D600 was only marginally slower than the D800 when I tried to focus on passing cars with a Nikon 70-200, 2.8. It was also a lot better than the D7000, even though they use the same system, I feel this may have been updated since the D7000 release.

In short I am finding it hard to justify the additional cost of the D800. This D600 really does seem to tick nearly all the boxes and if the high ISO images are great it will be my next camera for sure.

...PS,
On a side note, I am from Launceston Tasmania ( Google Map it, Its small and somewhat remote) Nikon has managed to get a D600 all the way down here by the 18-Sep, right on schedule. GREAT work Nikon, you really have outdone yourself with this release

D600 dropped below 1900 EUR (incl. 19% VAT) today!
Incredible! Nikon will steal the full-frame market from the others by simply offering the best price of any contender.

I'm glad I didn't jump at the D800. With the D600 rumors, I waited and just picked up a D600 yesterday.

That's great, Gordon! So you can say that the D600 looks to perform on a similar level as the D800 - if you factor in the differences in resolution which are 22% more linear resolution for the D800.
That would make the D600 indeed a very strong contender for "Volks-FX" camera of the year!

Mine arrived today. That interrupted the "work from home" a bit. Feels good.

Congrats!!! My D600 arrives on Tuesday.
I've been hoping to jump to full frame for the longest time, and the D800 was just slightly out of reach.
The price difference will help fund my next lens purchase.

Congrats to y'all!
Enjoy your new gear - and report on your findings and feelings, and on the images you took!

Btw. I'm interested to learn whether the D600 has the same prob as the D800 if you drive up magnification to the max in live-view: Focus on a (very) fine pattern and tell me whether you see ugly moire on the LCD-screen - which is then NOT captured in the image you take.
This bug makes live-view/contrast-based focusing pretty hard on my D800 for my lens-tests

Better U1 & U2 Settings (I use this a lot on my D7000)

I'm new to this feature. Can you give me an example of how you use it?
