I have a small pond on my property, This spring a friend of mine built a small platform on one of the branches of a tree overhanging the water`s edge. Although I still need help getting on to the platform it has allowed me a unique angle from which to photgraph waterfowl...

I'm also way behind since March in this thread, however it's much easier to get caught up since we don't have as many ducks over the summer as we do in winter. Here are some of my recent ducks since my last post. All shots A580 & Minolta 300mm F4 APO with 1.4x TC:

Have seen 3 more small flocks of geese starting to head south and the humming birds left a few days ago... add a few pelicans and a flock of sandhill cranes heading the same way and it definately looks like the migration is in its early stages. They are on their way to you Zack

the ugly duckling...

this guy stayed with that family for 4 days then I lost track of the entire group

It's about time! We've been thin on the ducks lately - mostly just the mottleds, whistlers, and the occasional wood duck. Looking forward to getting some of the winter visitors!

This is my favorite time of year in saskatchewan as the migrations have begun. We are about 2 to 3 weeks away from the peek of an average year but the geese are starting to arrive in numbers as are the ducks. It is my favorite time not only because of the ample oportunities but also because you get to see all their natural behaviors if you are patient. This years hatchings are now getting to mix with other flocks as they move south so we get to see all the dominant behaviors and also geese pairing off which leads to more dominant behavior. Lots of playing as well especially from the ducks which makes for good chances at unique pics... anyways I feel good enough to spend mornings and afternoons in blinds again even if the doc says no so I have spent the last 2 days at some old haunts and they didn't disappoint.

So with that said be prepared for a lot of goose and duck pics over the next 5 to 6 weeks

Just 2 for now of geese...

3 of this year's brood trying to claim an area and chase away the competition...

Image

and a classic goose pose but surprisingly hard to capture... this is one of my better attempts to date but still not exactly the right angle or light...
