If Bob's M31 was "muted", then my most recent attempt is the opposite! You may have seen an earlier version, but I've since added more data to it which I think helps a lot with getting the lower level details visible.

H-alpha 46 x 2m subs (some with cloud so may be rejected by processing). Astronomik 12nm filter on modified 450D.
SII 18 x 2m subs. Astronomik 12nm filter on modified 450D.
OIII 18 x 2m subs. Astronomik 12nm filter on standard 600D.
Objective: Zeiss 50mm makro planar at f/2.
Mount: AstroTrac unguided.
Processing: Nebulosity 3, PixInsight, NeatImage, Photoshop Elements.

Time allowing, I need to get more SII and OII data to add.

Looks like you are finding a bit more depth now. Pallette choice isn't always easy, is it. By going for Hubble you are at least following a standard option, unlike my own choice when I processed some Hubble data of the Ant Nebula. But for that one I not only had SII and OIII but also had NII to add to the mix.

Well, this is just for starters. I think I also need to try some other combinations, part artistic, part to see if it better hides the limitations of my current data...
