Yup. I'd assume the EF-M mount would need an adapter to take EF(-S) lenses.

There's a different set of pics appeared on canonpricewatch, which give a more direct end on views. With that I can revise the body size as approximately 105mm wide (excluding strap mounts), 65mm tall (excluding hotshoe/mode dial) and 29mm thick (excluding grip).

Lots of discussion going on elsewhere, with the majority seeming to go for a G1 X sensor size. The thing I didn't allow for in my previous thinking of APS-C was that I don't know how close the camera was at the time, thus even the apparent size with distance of various elements wasn't taken into consideration. Given that, I may be over-estimating the sensor size, although I still think it looks 3:2.

Oh, and it looks like Canon finally will supply pinch caps.

One thing I believe will be nice is that it should not be too hard to get an adapter that would take older FD lenses natively with infinity focus.

Canon EOS M, Bleh... No tilt-swivel

It so funny, cameras released like the G1X with tilt swivel yet are slow for shooting raw and poor close focusing but have tilt swivel. Others with tilt swivel have 1/1.7 in sensors have close focusing but poorer image quality.. still waiting for the goldilocks camera: tilt-swivel, fast raw, compact with or without interchangeable lens & moderately sized good sensor and close focus.

Having had time to digest the rumors, and they are of course still rumors, I think Canon have taken a minimum risk approach. They've opted for an APS-C sized sensor which gives them maximum flexibility for the future (only Leica will ever have the cahonas to employ a full-frame sensor in a mirrorless body ) as well as a great IQ right from the start but Canon have produced a first iteration EOS M body which will impact minimally on even their entry level DSLR sales. Win-win for them even if it might disappoint those waiting eagerly for a Canon CSC with the ergonomics of an E-M5 or NEX-7. Well played, Canon.

Anybody care to speculate why, if the rumors are true, the continuous frame rate of the EOS M, at 4.3 fps, is less than that of the 650D/T4i which has a mirror? Another case of Canon detuning the motor to protect sales?

For comparison, the ratings are 5 fps on the 650D, and 4.3 fps on the rumoured M so isn't much of a real word difference. Even if true, my guess is they may have used a differently optimised processor. For example, the much smaller form factor and therefore smaller battery may steer them towards managing peak power usage. Besides this, other aspects are far more likely to make or break this system to potential buyers.

And the usage of "another case" would suggest they cripple things for fun all the time, and my overheated brain at the moment is failing to think of even one example where they have done that.

G1 X is the most recent example, IMHO. DIGIC 5, 14.3 MP CMOS and "4.5 fps in a 6-frame full resolution burst". Both the burst speed (the G1 X has a DIGIC 5 processor!) and buffer length are, from the viewpoint of this external observer, not technical limitations but deliberate detuning.

But hey, I don't want to start a war over this, there may well be technical limitations that I don't know about and it may be that the rumored frame rate has suffered in the translation!

Speaking of the G1 X-- who's gonna buy that now when you can get a larger sensor in a smaller body with a faster lens (albeit a prime) for the same price?

I also find it interesting that there's no vari-angle LCD. Yes, I realize there's a size increase associated with having one. But given how much the press release mentions video...

And speaking of video, I assuming clips are limited to 29 minutes in all regions, but haven't seen any confirmation. Anybody else?
