The Children's Museum at Navy Pier in Chicago. If only I could remove that ugly glare at the bottom left...

Hi Evan.

Hope you don't mind, but I had a quick play in PS with the clone tool. Tough trying to get some reflections in the rear window, but i'm sure you could do a better job with more time.

(Just tell me if you want me to remove the pic)

Carl.

got myself a 'neutral density filter' (aka a 4"x5" welders mask replacement glass) which darkens the exposure about nine stops of light, I think. I secure it to the front of the lens with a couple rubber bands wrapped around the reversed lens hood. The glass is dark dark green, so all images will have to be rendered B&W, sepia, or if you're really talented, colors painted in via PS.

Considering its limitations and price tag of $7, I'm happy with the results!

MrKman, what grade welders glass is it? I have a #14 which is pretty dark. Never thought of playing with it outside of an eclipse. Nice Pic by the way!

I agree, you should be. The penetrating tranquility of the snap is immediate and powerful.

May want to have a look at some of the Adorama learning center stuff. One I found interesting
had to do with getting a false color on everything but the model. The photog used gels to paint
the model some color. The model was snapped holding a gray card. In post, the model's true color was
recovered using the gray card. The rest of the background was colored to the color wheel opposite of the
gels used to light the snap. I believe you'll be able to use a gray card and recover your colors.

EDIT-
If you ever get a chance to check this with your filter, do tell how it went. I'm thinking the welding
filter lets some spectrum pass and, that those photons got recorded by your sensor.

Thanks! This is what I got. An eclipse would be a perfect time to utilize it.

What I'm happy about is that it can definitely portray that tranquility as if not a soul had disrupted the glass-like water, however in reality, all the while there were three/four fishing boats floating around causing chopping water. It all just smooths out after, oh, 90 seconds of exposure. :D

Not sure if the grey card technique would work since you're dealing with only one color of light; this welders glass covers the whole frame with only one hue--green. Whereas in your example there are multiple: one of model and another in fore/background.

I've been spending the weekend around town in Leamington and Kingsville this weekend on a much-needed break from Toronto. My cousin is getting married next year and he wants me to be his best man... pretty exciting :) This photo was taken out at my aunt's place east of Leamington - this is Lola and my cousin Missy :) I'm amazed at how fast Lola's two little stubby legs will take her!
