I have canon 50D, EF 50mmf/1.8,17-85mm f/4-5.6 and i want to buy a macro lens for nature photography.

have you looked at the canon 100 Macro 2.8 or the 100 Macro 2.8L.

what are you think for EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM .

its a fine lens, but focal length is a bit short for macro. You need to get too close to the subject, that maybe an issue with insects etc. If you look at your 50 1.8 and zoom right in close on something, your results would be somewhat similar.

Unless you try extension tubes and the 50 1.8, you may need a tripod and need to use manually focus. I have not done this myself.

60mm is equivalent to 96mm on FF. If 100mmL has good focal length on a FF, then why do you say it is too short? It has 1:1. I think it will be a fine choice, imho.

On a FF body I'd prefer a 180mm Macro lens
The 100mm 2.8 is a great lens and I'd prefer the focal length over 60mm. Insects usually don't like cameras getting too close. On a full frame camera (who knows when you might want one ) you can still use it and it's a great portrait and still acceptable macro lens. The 60mm is not full frame compatible, still yes: it is a sharp lens and offers 1:1 macro. I'm happy I've bought the 100mm version and sometimes I wish I had its bigger brother (even on a crop frame camera!) but the 180mm 3.5 Macro is just too expensive for me at the moment.

Another option is the 150mm Sigma Macro.
There are two version of this lens.
I have the older, non-OS (Sigmas version of IS) as it was less expensive.

Sunil, the 100mm 2.8 usm is the best choice for APS-C.
Above this focal range the focal plane will be extremely low <0.5mm
The 60mm will give you better focal plane but you will need to get in closer.
There are online programs that you can use for free and check how f/; mm, and focal distance effect the image.

Well, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Lens is an excellent macro lens and may be Canon's most fun per dollar lens. This is the lens I most frequently recommend for someone starting out in macro photography.

I replaced the 180 f3.5 L with the 100 f2.8L. The 180 is a superb lens, though the 100 is easier to handle. The 180 is a very heavy lens, so pretty tough to use well. The 100 is far more versatile, mainly due to the size and weight. I sold the 180 after 6 months with the 100, when I was sure which one I preferred. Hands down for me, the 100 is more suitable, even though you have less reach.
