Last day I found that there is fungus growing inside my 24-70 f2.8
I got it 1 year back as an used 1. i was not an expert, so didnt check as i should have been
From the day 1 i had it, i was keeping it in a thermocol box, filled with silica.

so there is little chance ti get fungus when i have it, probably it was there before i bought it.

MY question is

I am going to send it to canon service to do servicing,, but my friends said, once its attacked by fungus, even if i have a good service, i am not going get the IQ and sharpness like before!! also very less resale value for a serviced lens!!
is it true? is there will any trace mark for finding a lens as a serviced one
Will there be any decrease in IQ after service

Servicing shouldn't affect the resale value. If done well, then it may even help as it shows the manufacturer has recently looked at it.

The biggest problem is fungus. It attacks the coatings and will damage the glass. There is no fix other than binning the affected elements and replacing them. If the infestation is mild, you might get away with just preventing its growth. A small amount is kinda like dust, doesn't show up but enough of it might eventually result in a loss of contrast.

its like a small spider net, two of them around 1.5cm diameter

is it serious enough to destroy my lens??
i have to wait til next Monday to get it serviced, waiting for my turn, already booked the same at canon service center, bangalore, india

With mould that large, Im not so sure - if its thick, it means its been sitting there for sometime and chances are has eatn through the coating.

If its thin, seethrough and you seemed to have gotten it early, I think the glass would be fine - and the actuall cost to image quality would be minimal.

Get it serviced asap and Im sure you will be fine
