Camera Labs

Hello,
So I am currently looking at buying a new DSLR, but with so many on the market, I am having a hard time deciding what one would be the best for me. Right now I have a Canon Rebel T1i, and I have been very pleased with it, but I think its time for me to upgrade. I use the camera mostly for taking pictures of scenery and wildlife. I would like a camera that is capable of shooting at higher speeds, and also one that does well in low light situations. I have been looking at Canon and Nikon, but I am open to suggestions on any brands. My price range is around $2,000 (£ 1400), but I am willing to look at cameras higher if necessary. I am open to any suggestions. Thank you for looking, and thank you for any suggestions!!

My suggestion is to invest in new lens instead of buying a new body. The T1i is perfectly good camera and doesn't warrant an upgrade. On that budget, I would invest in an 70-200mm F2.8 or 24-70 F2.8 lens.

I totally agree. The T1i is perfectly sound.

Spend the money on glass.

Got some of the gear but really still no idea...

While I agree with the previous posts suggesting a new lens, I'd also like to mention that the T4i should be announced soon.

At the end of the day the ability to shoot well in low light is largely down to the glass employed. Sensors continue to improve but the laws of physics dictate that the room for improvement is running out. On the other hand if it's higher burst speed and responsiveness that you need then a body upgrade is the way to go. The trouble is that something like the 7D blows most of your budget so would you have enough cash left to buy the glass you need?

I have the T1i, too. The reason for me not to upgrade was the almost not noticable increase in image quality. Of course, the 7D is faster, better weather sealed, has the better viewfinder and the better handling - but the image quality isn't really noticably better. That's why I prefer to stay with the T1i until there's a camera that's offering better image quality - at least in JPG. I improved my T1i's handling by getting a battery grip and it feels OK.

In the time between I just got some better lenses like the great 100-400mm (very nice for wildlife) and the 100mm 2.8L IS USM for macro, portraits (instead of a 70-200mm 2.8 - I don't have the zoom but all the other features and the macro possibility for a lower price) and "lower" light.

I'm quite happy with my solution. Feels better than buying a new camera that has the same image quality now and if they release something better you pay twice if you want that, too. At least I have some great lenses now and if they release a better camera (to be expected until september + some time until the price isn't the "new equipment price" any more) I'm prepared.
