can i have some assistance please.

I have started playing with taking colour out of images to make them an off - black and white image. The problem is that i am generating an awful lot of background noise in the pale colours that i would like to get rid of ? I have tried using blur functions but this takes some of the sharpness of the key features out and i have tried using median which does bugger all as far as i can see. I am still using Photoshop 7 (considering going out and buying CS5..but might have to save up for it).

Can anyone provide any tips for reducing the noise in shots like this please ?

what i do is put a b and w layer over the colour an slowly remove the black and white till i get it like i want

yes to both. have just started playing with the DPP, especially in RAW and have been using a desaturate layer in PS for a few shots.

Still experimenting. Suggestions welcomed.
