Hello everyone,
I myself have had a D3100 for around 18 months and feel ready to upgrade to a D7000 but with the imminent release of the D3200 this makes me wonder when the D7000's replacement will arrive.

I'm still pretty new to Dslr's but with to the enthusiasts out there I was wondering if anyone can give an speculative guess on the likely hood of a replacement of the D7000 in the next 18 months ?

I have to say the release of the D3200 really to me by surprise as I assumed there would be at least another year before a replacement would be introduced.

As to your question: I have no current rumor in my mind. But If you're talking 18 month in the future my guess is that The D7100 will have arrived. Because Nikon has to protect their sales against the higher MP-count D3200.

There currently aren't any D7100 rumors that I've heard of, but I'd guess anywhere from 6-18 months. I wouldn't be too surprised if there wasn't one this year, especially with the speculated D400 and D600 a couple of months away. However, if we don't see a D400 this year, there's a higher chance that Nikon will completely drop the DX00 DX line and merge it with the D7000's line.

Either way, I'm confident that we'll see a new "prosumer" body this year, whether it comes in the form of a D7100, D400 or the rumored low priced D600 FX body.

I find it odd that there are no rumours regarding the D7000's successor. The D7100 would be expected this year as the D7000 came out in 2010 but I think the floods and earthquake would have put a massive dent in Nikon's release schedule. Apart from the D300s and the D3x (always released some time after the non-X) that Nikon seems to have forgotten about, the D7000 is now the oldest model in their line-up so it is probably first in line for replacement.

I would think it perhaps a bit early to worry about, or anticipate, the D7000's successor. I waited until the reviews and comments indicated all was well, and bought my wife a D7000 a mere six months ago.* It was one of the last few that were available in 2011, which effectively prevented me from acquiring a second one for myself, or as a back-up for my wife. (Yes, I had thought about fully or partially switching to Nikon DX digital, before I purchased my most recent Canon L lens and flashgun in early 2012.) Only in recent weeks have USA dealers been able to again keep the D7000 in stock. At the local dealer level, the available D7000 cameras sell within days, especially the few available as body-only.

A few new D90 cameras were still available from local dealers a mere few weeks ago.

*My wife uses her D7000 in her work, as a forensic investigator for the county medical examiner. The D7000 is a most excellent camera in the field, where relatively light weight, and some degree of weather-sealing, are desirable features.

I bought a D7000 last week, taking advantage of £80 cashback offer running at the moment. I guess the cashback offer is a sign that the camera is coming towards the end of its life.

A little update- As much as I want the D600 , a new D7000 priced at £599 (Body) inc P+P is just too tempting .

Don't believe the rumours about camera's. There is always rumours and they are usually wrong.
I hear rumours all the time but usually they just make stuff up as in wishfull thinking mixed with some twisted logic from some kind of idiot. there are even entire websites such as nikonrumors.com and canonrumors.com which spread the rumour.

Latest rumour is that a Nikon D400 is supposed to be introduced very soon. But thats also what they said back in 2010.
So just buy what you need now. And don't worry to much about it. You can always buy a used one if you are worried about spending too much, but the used nikon gear is pretty high priced so I rather buy new personally.
