There is no long term trend for the 5D2. It's being superseded in a few months. The short term trend is however suspicious.

The price is rising for any number of reasons. It could be because Canon are preparing us for the 5D3 at a higher price than the 5D2 has been. A newer model is normally priced a bit higher than the previous model. It could be because Canon are reducing production of the 5D2 with the impending ramping up of 5D3 production. That would reduce the availability of the 5D2 and therefore increase the price. Canon will also know that the impending 5D3 is becoming well known and will not want to have a lot of wasted 5D2 production going unsold.

Forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere, but after exposing my first 1,000 images on the 5DII, I have been startled by the rate at which the batteries discharge (I use the BG-E6 grip with genuine Canon LP-E6 batteries). My unscientific estimate is that it discharges at almost twice the rate of the same batteries in my 7D.

Is this an aberration, or does the full frame sensor just consume more power?

could be, what I have noticed on the 7D is that the more IS you use the faster it uses up battery.
In particular IS and AIservo together seem to use it up quicker, as I tend to spend a bit of time following a subject.I don`t use live view much, but that is a possibility.
If its just in single shot and no IS, or IS in short bursts, it lasts much longer.

Ah! I think you just blew my intuitive judgement out of the water. I had recently discovered the joys of manual focusing using live view, so most of my history with the 7D was without much use of live view.

On the 5d, I have used it a lot, so that could easily account for the perceived difference.

Wow - the 5D2 starts getting the consumer full frame camera! The price is falling again here. Just about 30-35% more expensive than the 7D at the moment. Nice move to keep the 5D2 with a much lower price than the 5D3.

damn, that means I might even buy one. I wasn`t going to go ff, especially not on a body that doesn`t at least offer what the 7D has, but if the price is right
But then what lens, the 24-105 with f4 or the 24-70 2.8 or new one from Tamron. I would like to use a ff with aperture at f4 and see how it looks in real life.

That will see the price fall in the second hand market, Bob may have been onto something selling his when he did.

I've been thinking pretty much what you say here, maxjj. But I have almost certainly decided to get one. Question is when and whether it's new or used. Will most likely be getting the 24-105/4L. Not necessarily at the same time as the 5D2 though

I see others are debating on getting themselves a 5D MkII as well. Same as my thoughts now a days with the recent price drop.

Gotta say though that I am a little bit skeptical, as the 7D is a "better camera", but the 5D has a "better sensor".

Thought I would get the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 , the only problem is getting a decent example and not a Sigma Lemon :/
