Just got back home from Hong Kong and found my brother to be in intensive care. Damned.

The last week I shot about 5000 photos, about 300 of them taken with my analog camera (mainly with the Sigma 12-24mm attached).

Just underwent a week of plumbing hell as the plumber couldn't find the water leak.
Today, after taking some wall out, he found a pin-hole leak in the copper water main.

Having a bit of a brain dead week of photography... Taking pictures of my neice's 21st birthday last weekend and was blaming my cheap flash and my bad bounce technique for inconsistent exposures for the whole night only to realise the next day that I had the bracketing turned on in camera (there may have been drink involved...),function button has now been reassigned to spot metering so I can't do the same thing again... Also spent a day this week wondering why I couldn't get my focus points to move only to eventually realise that I had the multi selector switch locked...duh!!! Ever think you don't deserve the camera you're using? :?

If the Great Green Arkleseizure had meant us to solder tiny wires to tiny connectors it would have given us smaller fingers and three hands.

I've been on this forum for only a year but until the announcement of the D800/800e I can't say that I recall a single mention of moire.

Now it's popping up all the over the place.

How interesting.

I am thinking that purchasing my Canon 135mm f/2 L lens was well worth the financial sacrifice. I used it, on a 5D, at f/2, to discretely capture an available-light image of my wife feeding her elderly (age 92) father. The light level was very low, so only a fast lens plus high ISO could have captured the moment, and the focal length was perfect for the distance. I did not have time to compose the image according to any artistic rules; just a quick shoot, but a convex mirror in the background made the image quite interesting, by accident. I was asked to erase the image, but my wife and her sister did not realize I had actually shot twice. I erased a badly blurred image, and kept the better one. (This was a few weeks ago.)

The image is not a great one, but it will be OK for private family viewing, and has suddenly become quite precious, because my father-in-law passed away yesterday, early in the afternoon, and this is our final image of him. The family is now quite glad I did not erase the image.

My father-in-law lived an interesting life. A descendant of the composer Dvorak, he was an accomplished violinist, whose career was postponed by World War II. He resisted the Nazi occupation at the espionage level, and after the war, had to flee the communists. In a series of events more amazing than some spy stories in books or on film, he hid with relatives in Czechoslovakia, then evaded on foot into the American sector of occupied Germany. He nearly died of disease in a displaced-persons camp, and later emigrated to the USA, where he managed to re-start his musical career, playing for two major symphonies from the 1960s to 1980s.

Of course, I cannot share this image on-line. Even if I knew how to post
images, this was a very private moment. My wife's family shuns publicity, so I am not going to mentions names, either, at least for now.
