 Post subject: AF-Assist question
PostPosted: Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:41 pm
Hello to everyone in this friendly forum,
I have just upgraded from my trusty D80 to a D300.And i have an issue that i can't figure out atm.
When i attach my sb-600 to the camera and i was used to use the af-assist from the flash when taking pictures in clubs , cuz that is what i mostly do now.But it doesn't seem to light , even if i turn on or off the af-assist from the camera. The af assist from the camera lights up no problem but i can't get the one from the flash to light.I tried in M,A,S,P mode with the af- on single servo focus, auto focus area mode.
It maybe a simple solution and a rather stupid question but i thought i would ask knowing that there are a few D300 owners around :).
Ty in regards.

Try spot or centre weighted metering- I think that may do it

Tried that.Still nothing. It can't be the flash cuz it worked on the d80 just fine.
Can it be the lens ?

Set your autofocus to AF-S, not AF-auto or AF-C

EDIT: ah, you already tried

well strange thing. The af-assist problem seems to have come from the lens.I was using a Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 ... tried another lens and it worked ... don't understand why !?

put the focus point in the center.

there's not too many points where this will work. but it should definitely work in the center.
