This one I captured while walking the Giardini in Venice and it just struck a nerve: I had the feeling that more people were talking on the phone than talking to each other face-to-face:

Mobile Trance 33140 by Thomas, on Flickr
Captured with Nikon 24-70/2.8 at 70mm, f2.8, 1/125 sec, -1EV

Pedestrians just walking by with an empty smile on their faces talking to no-one you could see. Sitting on the park-bench chatting on your mobile while the pretty girls just walk away.
I found this image typical of many situations I encountered during my stay. And I called it "Mobile Trance": People beeing oblivious to their surroundings while pressing the mobile to their ears...

I like this one, was the guy actually connected or just pretending. Whilst shopping my wife saw a guy talking on his mobile and it started to ring. It's the new way of life, whilst the technology is great more and more have fictitious friends, reminds me a 4 year old nephew with his invisible friend.

Cheers

And this is what you get when everybody has at least one mobile phone:

Telephones 33286 by Thomas, on Flickr
Captured with Nikon AF-S 24-70/2.8G at 50mm, f/2.8, 1/60 sec, ISO 800, -1EV

And this was captured near San Marco where hordes and hordes of tourists roam the streets...

So true... Sometimes when I'm in the bus, coming back from Barcelona, absolutely everyone dives into their phones. I then feel weird sitting there with no phone in my hand nor headphones in my ears... Anyway, at least I have time to think about stuff.

Hello orange-HD, and welcome to the friendly Camera Labs forum!
To enjoy your stay here please have a look at the house-rules!
----
Both images were shot with a D300, not a D700.
