Camera Labs

This is not so much a complaint but rather an observation.

When I was using Olympus for years the weakest part of my camera was the lens mount - when I put the larger lenses that was meant for the E5 on my E510 and if I didnt support the lens the body would FEEL like its flexing.

Now with my 7D I notice that when I grab my camera by the grip I can feel the (EDIT: MEMORY CARD DOOR) under my palm move and jiggle, not enough to make me worry and not enough to make me think water or dust will get in, but its enough to notice a differnt kind of build quality. Feels weaker than the pop-up flash arm.

ALL my film cameras like my OM1 feels like a 1950's American Nuclear Bunker and my Pentax feels like a 1990's White Good appliance.

Whats the weakest part of your cameras?

I've never noticed the 7D's battery door being "weak", but I do notice my 5D's memory card door is incredibly flimsy-feeling. It never feels like it's closed properly and it shifts when I grip the camera tightly. Might be due to the shape of the outside of the door itself being more ergonomically-correct on the 7D. The whole body of the 5D feels flimsy in comparison though, which is quite a letdown (for the price).

Same ''problem'' here with the 50D. The 350D feels much less flimsy...

I only currently have an ixus so the build quality is pretty standard, all metal body. However the lens seems to like dust. Back in 2008 when I got it after about a month a speck of dust appeared on the rear or one of inside elements, making this giant black dot on all my photos. Took it back to john lewis (after 20mins arguing with the assistant that it wasn't my fault) it was sent back to canon. Now its happened again . Unfortunately just before I plan to get my 60D. Wasn't intending to replace the ixus for a few more years but looks like ill be replacing it after the 60d..... Probably should buy a waterproof one....
Looks like ill be using content aware tool in PS CS5 a bit more now
