I have a Canon 60D and I have 2 lenses in mind that I want to get....17-50mm 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 but the only problem is I won't be able to afford the Canon so I am trying to make a decision between the Sigma or Tamron versions....I really need some direction on this one. I want the short lens for small studio work and the bigger lens to play with action, sports stuff...what do you think? Are these good choices for what I want to do and which one Sigma or Tamron?

As I'm not interested in crop frame lenses I can only speak for the 70-200mm lenses:
The Sigma version has a faster focusing speed + full time manual focus and the Tamron version is sharper - and as far as I can remember it's even cheaper.
Personally I'd go for the Tamron.

I dont have any hand own experience, Still::
Reviews suggests that Tamron 17-50( non VC) had the better optics therefore will produce better image, also its the lightest . Sigma version has faster HSM but has an inferior optic( as compared), also notorious for its Less AF accuracy. But have 1 advantage -OS. Tamron too have a VC version- but reviews said its inferior to its non -VS version in terms of IQ and has a slower AF

Here i will agree with JIKO

But as u r looking for the same to be used in sports, its better to go with Sigma. It has the fast AF, as close to Canon version, but do remember that many copies have front/back focusing issues, as ur camera doesn't have AF micro adjustment, better to have a good return policy with ur shop or make sure that they will re-calibrate ur lens.
Tamron version have better IQ( its marginal), but the MF and AF push is a pain( atleast for me)

Just a thought but you may wish to consider the canon 70-200 F4 - very good lens and much lighter than the 2.8 versions if yo can live with it being a little slower...

I decided to get the Tamron 70-200 (without VC) now I just need to go out and shoot....
