The K-5 is more of the 7D / D300 class than the 60D / 7000D. Just the price is closer to the second ones.


Personally it doesn't matter to me if they merge the 5D and the 7D - if they don't combine the prices as well.
But I think seperate 5D / 7D could be better for the marketing aiming at different kinds of photographers as they do at the moment. And when somebody needs both he just buys both if he can afford it - that's where Canon could earn more money by keeping them separated and photographers who want the crop frame can get the crop frame.

I quite agree; the 7D for those looking to capture sports and wildlife and the 5D for those who want to capture landscapes and portraits. Obviously its a little more complicated than that though (e.g. someone trading up to a 7D from a XXXD EOS taking forward his/ her legacy ef-s lenses)

With the advent of the D800 (with its 36 megapixels) a full frame Canon with a crop setting like on the Nikon FX bodies could be quite useful for those who want the best of both worlds without a noticible drop in resolution and performance over an actual cropped sensor. I doubt though that Canon would make such a camera that was ef-s lens compaitible, as they rely too strongly on the trade up revenues of buying full frame lenses (hence why we question their seriousness to their commitment to the EF-S lens range and the quality and build of them as opposed to L range).

with what features and sensor though? The 7D is the 5D with a cropped sensor, pretty much.

Well as widely circulated in the rumour mill it has to be either a 22mp or 39mp, because those are 'magic numbers' for video oversampling. I'm not really one for specualating on megapixels.

Personally I lean more towards a small number of megapixels (not forsaking resolution obviously), for improved low light abilites and unstupid raw files, unlike those seen on the new D800; 76 megabites each!!!

We can see from these pics of the new 5D(?) that it is greatly aligned button wise with current 7D. I would grately like to see some sort of handme down tech from the new 1DX, favorable the metering system and a more advanced AF system to that of the current 7D (approx. 30 AF points).

I would particularly like to see on the 7D mk2 a vari-angle screen, as I said in an earlier posting I found it quite versatile. Sorry not to see it on the new camera really.

I prefer a fixed screen to use most of the time. Vary angles are useful in some circumstances though.

I'm not as fussed about mega pixels as I used to be, I don't think.

500D, the 7D is not even close to either 5D, it is better in practically every way other than sensor size and viewfinder size.

Physically speaking, the 5D series are very similar to the xxD series up to the 50D. The 7D is the first to re-vamp that, and the alleged photos of the 5D successor seem to show the 5D is moving to a 7D like styling too.
