Just thought Id try it since I like Photomatix but I wanted to know how Photoshop does HDR (in terms of how to use it) and I kinda like both but Photomatix seems easier for HDR.

Anyway, this is 3 images, with the original and then the two I mucked around with. This is a shot of the now empty Lake George about 50km from Canberra Australia.

ORIGINAL - at "normal" exposure


My first attempt to make some kind of shilouette with some punchy looking clouds


Second attempt to make the foreground seem more interesting lol


What do you guys think? Please let me know your honest thoughts - only way I think I will learn how to do this kind of stuff

Well, assuming the top image is a normal photo, I don't think the suject has enough dynamic range to warrant using HDR. If it is an HDR, it needs more contrast, possibly color.

Pic 2 has strong vignetting, but I like the clouds.

Pic 3 I like the overall look (viewing from an unoptimized LCD) but think the left clouds are clipped too much. Also noticable vignetting.

(I don't know if the vignetting was a desired effect.)
