The Army has issued me a 40D for my Public Affairs Job. The guy that gave it to me just said to shoot Auto but I can't do that. Problem is I can't find how do adjust the exposure and right now it is set at -1/3. I think I've figured everything else out. Controls are very different from my 550D

40 D is a nice camera, I am sure u will love it once u used to.. And may be u will find it hard to use ur 550 there after

Come in to ur problem
Ur camera is locked in -1/3 Exposure compensation, the solution is

The power switch has 3 positions, 1) OFF 2) ON and 3) position is( dont know how to denote here-- its in the top position)

Make sure that the switch is in the 3rd position, then u can control the Quick Control Dial(QCD)( big wheel dial in the back position- near to LCD monitor)
Turn the QCD and adjuct the exposure compensation to 0
Problem solved

If u r not using ur camera in M mode- try to use the camera in ON position , that will prevent any accidental dialing of the QCD- BUT make sure to turn that to 3rd position to use the QCD

Cool Thanks. Another thing I had to do was once I put the power switch in the proper position I had to half press the shutter release then it allowed me to adjust it.

Yes, so far I like the body but I'm going to have to use one of my lenses, not too keen on the 55-250 so far.

Thanks a bunch!

I hate you renjith  I was using the 40D all day today with the flash mounted and my nice heavy Sigma lens. I was reorganizing my personnel gear this evening and picked up my 550D with my little 35mm lens and it felt like a toy.

I felt EXACTLY the same thing after using my 7D for 2 weeks and then lifted up my Olympus E510 and I almost dropped it because I lifted it too hard and my camera almost flew over my shoulder.

Thats what we were talking about!!!!

I had a Nikon D90, Build tougher than 550,, and attached 18-105. I went to check canon 40+ ef 24-70 for an exchange
And I found that i will die to drop canon once i had it, its like handle a piece of rock!!
And more importantly , once u start using the short cut keys- like ISO, AF...... in ur 40D. U will be tired to go through the menus in ur 550

Enjoy dear friend, keep ur gears safe
