Anyone know what remote i need to use in video mode on the 600d? i have an official canon wireless remote from my 400d. but it only seems to take photos on my canon and not actually work for video mode. thanks.

I don't think there is one. Also bear in mind that the 400D has no video recording to speak of so if the official remote you purchased was made at the time when the 400D was in production, it wouldn't make sense for it to activate video recording.

the only thing I can think of is to use a long (5 metre) USB cable and a laptop with the supplied software - that allows you to remotely activate video. I also saw a module somewhere, which allows you to do the same thing wirelessly, but it's not cheap by any means...

A whacky-yet-doable solution would be to have your smartphone hooked up to the computer you're tethered to and use a remote assistance software like TeamViewer to operate the USB tether remotely through your device... lol... it would work!

iv got and idea that might work, iv got the remote to actually work now. but as the sensor is on the wrong side of the camera for what i need to use it for im going to use fiber optic from remote to camera sensor.

Can you please elaborate on what remote you ended up using? Yes, I understand you had issues with where the sensor is place, but the idea of the remote for video control is very interesting. Also, I've seen smaller IR extenders tat are designed for high end audio cabinet use that might work in lieu of a fiber optic cable.

another method is to fit your own, but that would of course void the warranty, and may cause damage.
