Those of you lucky enough to still be in aurora zones (unlike me :( ) should expect major activity this weekend. Check it out at:
http://www.spaceweather.com/
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast
http://www.softservenews.com/Aurora.htm they also run twitter.com/#!/aurora_alerts

Good Luck!!

Heading up to Flattop around 10:30. It's currently a warm 2 compared to the -10 when I left JBER.

If you can't get all the way to the Flattop parking lot there is a road like Aurora View or something like that. On your way to Flattop it will be on your left. It ends in a circle but it is surrounded by trees so once you have found the end come back a little :) So, try Flattop, if the parking lot is close or snowed in and you feel comfortable just stay on the street outside of the parking lot. If not head to that Aurora road.

Use a tripod, keep your ISO low to capture detail and go with a long exposure. I saw one guy use an iso100 with a 30-sec exposure

Yep that's where I went. Ended up having a camera malfunction as the focus lens decided to pop off. I wasn't about to try and get it back in place on the mountain. Its back in place and will try again tonight. Yesterday was a 4 rating tonight is a 5.

2 unedited pics of Flattop.

Did you see any aurora? Those are nice of Flattop but you are looking South/Southeast. There looks like there may be some color on Flattop like it may have been reflecting something behind you, maybe city lights, maybe aurora. Good luck tonight. spaceweather.com says it hasn't hit yet

That sucks. There was a MAJOR event right before I left, it was seen as far south as Alabama. Alaska was under hard cloud cover.

Me too! I am still watching the weather but it doesn't look good here. Clouds last night have turned to snow today.

Would love to see a few shots posted.

Well hmmmm.. I need to find a new location. I am thinking Eagle River or Eklutna. The mountain, clouds and light are just to much. This is the best I could get.
